ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Cardinals activated first baseman Matt Adams from the 15-day disabled list Friday and optioned rookie outfielder Oscar Taveras to Triple-A Memphis. Adams, who had been sidelined by a left calf strain, was batting sixth for the opener of a weekend series against Washington. Allen Craig moved back to right field, where Taveras had been starting. The 21-year-old Taveras was sent back to the minors to get regular playing time. Rookie Randal Grichuk stayed on the roster because hes logged more minor league time. "He learned a lot," manager Mike Matheny said of Taveras. "Hes got more to learn." Adams was 3 for 15 with two RBIs in a four-game rehab stint with Memphis.
